The representative elections of the Student Union of the new Tampere University will be held by electronic vote on Monday 24th, Tuesday 25th, and Wednesday 26th of September 2018.

TTYY, the Student Union of Tampere University of Technology, and Tamy, the Student Union of University of Tampere will merge as the student union of the new Tampere University on 1 January 2019. In accordance with the bill (HE 73/2017) approved by the Parliament of Finland, the representative elections will be held no later than September 2018. In the elections, 49 members will be elected to the Representative Council of the student union of the new Tampere University. The term of office is from 26 September 2018 to 31 December 2020 unless otherwise decided by the elected Council of Representatives. The results of the elections will be published in the meeting of the Central Election Committee starting at 6 p.m. on 26 September 2018.
Because the elections are organised at an unusual time, there will be no advance voting.
The elections will be carried out abiding by the Election Rule certified by the Central Election Committee of the Student Union of the new Tampere University, which is available at the notice boards in Tamy’s and TTYY’s offices and at www.tampereenylioppilaskunta.fi.
Right to vote
Only those members who have enrolled as present at the Tampere University of Technology or the University of Tampere and who are personally present while voting have the right to vote in the elections of the student union of the new Tampere University. Every qualified voter has one vote regardless of whether they are a member of both student unions or just one. To have the right to vote, the person in question must enrol as present no later than 14 September 2018.
A person’s right to vote is verified through the membership registers of the student unions. The electronic voting system keeps record of those who have used their right to vote. The Central Election Committee makes decisions in unclear situations regarding the right to vote.
Nomination of candidates
All those eligible to vote are also eligible to stand as candidates in the elections, unless otherwise stipulated in the Election Rule of the student union of the new university.
A candidacy announcement can be submitted electronically by using the e-form certified by the Central Election committee, which can be found at www.tampereenylioppilaskunta.fi. The candidacy announcement can also be submitted in paper. The candidacy announcement form must always be completed personally by the candidate. The candidate must sign the paper form, and the candidate who completes the e-form will sign in using their basic user account. Electoral alliances and circles must submit the electoral documents in paper.
Electoral documents verified by the Central Election Committee are available at the election website at www.tampereenylioppilaskunta.fi after noon on Monday, 7 May 2018, and at the student union offices (contacts below).
The candidates and electoral alliances must deliver their signed electoral documents in paper or electronically to the Central Election Committee at Tamy’s or TTYY’s office (contacts below) no later than 4 p.m. on Thursday, 6 September 2018. Electoral alliances and circles will receive a receipt for submitting their electoral documents. The documents will be made public only after the Central Election Committee has discussed them in a meeting.
When submitting the documents, each electoral alliance must also name two representatives for every ten candidates to act as technical assistants in the elections. The assistants shall be appointed by submitting a separate form for registering technical assistants when the documents establishing the electoral alliance are submitted.
Rules and regulations concerning election advertising will be available on the election website and the Election Rule no later than four (4) weeks prior to the first official polling day.
