Welcome to TUT! To make your start as smooth as possible, there are a couple of things you should take care of in advance.
Everyone studying in TUT is a member of the Student union TTYY. You can pay the membership fee annually when you register for the academic year. The fee comprises the Student union’s share and the FHSH health service share. Read more on the amount and paying of the fee at Membership fee -page.
To be entitled to student discounts in the campus restaurants, for example, you need a student card. The card is ordered via electronic form and we recommend you order it before your studies begin. The student card is also your access card on campus, library card, printing card and you can use it as a rechargeable meal card. Read more at Student card and discounts -page.
Mobile student card
Once you have paid the Student union fee, you can download Opiskeljan Tampere’s mobile student card to your phone. The mobile card acts just like the physical card except the ingtegrated access card ets. qualities. See instructions how to download Pivo app and mobile student card: pivolompakko.fi/opiskelijantampere/
Study grant and general housing allowance
We recommend that you submit your study grant and housing allowance application as soon as you have been accepted to the university. For more information on the application procedure and whether your entitled to grants, go to the Kela study grant website.
Van for moving
TTYY together with TTMK rents a van to student union members at a student-friendly rate. You must hold a minimum of class B driving licence to drive the van. You can book the van here.
Fuksi (freshman) year
On the first day of the orientation week, the students will be divided into tutoring groups. The tutor will guide and support the fuksis for the entire fuksi year.
At the beginning of your fuksi year, you will receive a fuksi passport that you can fill up with points by participating in various events. Don’t forget to take it with you wherever you go!
Making a difference
The student union has several sections where you too can make a difference. In the sections, you can discuss current issues and organise events, for example. Each section has its own area of responsibility.
Fuksi Wappu (May Day)
The fuksi year culminates in the couple of weeks preceding Wappu (May Day) during which there are dozens of events. Fuksis may put the teekkari cap on for the first time on May Day Eve when the Suomen neito statue also receives her cap. The highlight of Wappu is Teekkarikaste, the immersion ritual where you are dipped into the Tammerkoski rapids on May Day!
