Finnish Student Health Service is your healthcare service provider for the duration of your studies at the Tampere University of Technology. FSHS has clinics in every university town in Finland and, with certain limitations, you are entitled to use the services provided by the Helsinki, Turku, Jyväskylä and Oulu clinics. You must present a valid student card or student certificate (available from TUT’s Student Affairs Office) to use FSHS’s services.
Making an appointment
You can make an appointment to FSHS by telephone or in person. The person taking your appointment will speak to you and organise appropriate treatment. Sometimes you may be able to take care of the problem with the self-care instructions given by the person who answered your call. In urgent matters, you should contact the clinic first thing in the morning to have a better chance at getting an appointment.

The FSHS healthcare fee is included in the student union membership fee. In addition, for certain services, such as a dentist’s appointment, there is a separate charge.
If you are unable to make your appointment, cancel it well in advance. If you fail to cancel your appointment, you will be charged the separate charge, if applicable. You will also be charged a penalty fee of EUR 35 regardless of the type of appointment.
Appointments can be cancelled in the online service or by telephone.
Electronic health inquiry “Sätky”
FSHS invites all first-year students to a check-up consisting of an electronic health inquiry and, if necessary, a personal appointment. The health inquiry is emailed to every freshman and it has questions about general health, oral health and matters affecting them.
An FSHS employee will review your answers and send you a personal estimate of the state of your health. You will be asked to book an appointment for further procedures, if necessary.
Replying does not take much time but is very important. Please reply without delay!
New online service OmaYTHS is launched in May 2016. In the service, students can check, reschedule or cancel their existing appointments. You can also make a new appointment if you have already undergone the treatment assessment.
For more information, go to the FSHS website.
When FSHS units are closed
When FSHS units are closed, the health centre is responsible for emergency healthcare. For these services, you will be charged the normal health centre fee. Hervanta health centre is located next to Cupola, Cinola and the library (Insinöörinkatu 38, tel. (03) 5657 2328). In Tampere, emergency care is provided by the Acuta First Aid Unit at the Tays Central Hospital (Teiskontie 35, tel. (03) 311 611). The First Aid Unit is open 24 hours a day and in urgent cases you can go there without an appointment.
